APPROACH
KIN traveled to Zambia for two weeks of immersive storytelling, visiting schools throughout Lusaka to document the GROW program firsthand. We worked closely with the GROW team during pre-production to develop a clear narrative strategy and storyboard, ensuring we captured both the big-picture vision and the intimate moments of impact.
The result was a 10-minute documentary featuring interviews with GROW leadership, Zambian program staff, and students, paired with a reportage-style photo series of portraits, classroom scenes, and landscapes that bring the work to life. Our approach honored the dignity of students and educators while creating visually striking content GROW could use across fundraising campaigns, grant applications, and social platforms.
THE CHALLENGE
GROW's resilience building program was making a significant impact in schools across Lusaka, Zambia, but they lacked compelling visual content to tell that story to funders. To secure major grants and expand their work internationally, they needed a documentary film and photo series that could capture the heart of their program in action, showcase real student transformation, and give potential donors a window into the classrooms where GROW's curriculum was changing lives.
RESULTS
KIN's film and photography became essential tools in GROW's fundraising efforts, helping them articulate their impact and vision to major funders. The content played a key role in securing a $1 million grant from the John Templeton Foundation, enabling GROW to expand its character education programs for the next two years and reach even more students worldwide.
