APPROACH
KIN partnered with Restore NYC to create "Survivor Story," a narrative short film following a survivor as she escapes her trafficker with her newborn child and rebuilds her life. We collaborated with the Restore team to write a script based on actual client experiences, then led the full production, from casting to scouting locations across New York City. The film powerfully illustrates the transformation that access to safe housing, job training, and entrepreneurship resources makes possible.
THE CHALLENGE
Restore NYC needed an honest and engaging way to show the reality that survivors of trafficking face and the transformative impact of their programs. Statistics alone couldn't capture the emotional journey from exploitation to independence. They needed a narrative film that honored survivors' experiences with dignity while demonstrating the tangible difference Restore NYC makes. Ultimately, they needed a production partner who prioritized the safety and agency of the women they serve.
RESULTS
"Survivor Story" premiered at Restore NYC's virtual Economic Empowerment Summit and has become a cornerstone piece in their awareness and fundraising efforts, helping donors viscerally understand the journey survivors face and the critical role Restore NYC plays in making freedom real.
